Last post from Egypt

We had our last day in Cairo. It was exhausting and much in need of empowerment. There were people who had become reliant on relief, thank God for the ability to change the situation with compassion.

What a bazaar bazaar we traveled to. I did well for buying gifts even though I have no energy to do so. I thank you for your continued prayers.

A new home

It is not easy to live in the middle of the developing world. I don't know what it is about Egypt, but something about it is to exciting. It is a true melting pot of societies and energy. You should check it out.

There are no coincidences about us being here and meeting the people we met.

Mamaw I got you something you will appreciate today.

Clinics churches and cities

Well it was another great day.

I saw the cutest kid in the world. Seriously he blew kisses as he left the room to his newfound friends Sandra and I.

We went to a church carved in stone. By the way a service would hold 10,000 and they were making room for more.

Christ is in Egypt. I have seen evidence. This city never sleeps, but I do, goodnight. We are being used well to serve the Lord. More to come.

Clinical medicine

Today we saw more patients. The most fulfilling day of my medical career thus far. True caring for people's health, holistically. I will share more later.

We are doing well and in great company.

God bless

Mommy I need help

Who do you ask for when you really are in a bind? Sorry Dad, I think you might be the answer a lot of the time. Yesterday I needed Mom.

I really am not trained to do dental work, being that was yesterdays chief complaint, even though we were dealing with a pediatric population, health was being affected by odontogenic disease. The fancy word for doctors to say "you need a dentist really bad, you are losing weight, because you can't eat all due to your poor dental hygiene."

Let's share some good, most children that we saw were very healthy and well nourished, for living in a refugee camp this is a hughe accomplishment.

Life doesn't start in Egypt til 930 pm. We are getting very worn out, although I have slept well. Please continue to pray for us.

What a day

Friday is the day to worship in Egypt. I did not expect to attend two services during a business day. We started the morning worshiping with what appeared to be the United nations of missionaries to Egypt. British, singaporese, scotish, Egyptian, American, and many more. God filled each one of us up to send us out. Our life is about mission. We are to be filled with the truth so that every action we have is that of love.

Ok so then we went to the pyramids. You know it's a great day when you got your picture taken on a camel with three pyramids in the background and that is your third favorite event of the day.

We got to eat a delicious meal, everything we had was very tasty. Pepsi is king in Egypt. Who would have thought.

Lastly we worshiped with the Ethiopians in a German church. I was back to nearly home in Kenya. The smiles and voices would warm the coldest of nights, it might be 70 here and they are wearing jackets.

Our team is well and bonding for such an eclectic group of people. We serve a might God.

Made it to Egypt

Hope all is well in the states. We made it in safely by the grace of God. Travel is difficult here, but very rewarding to see the work being done in local refugee schools. We have met dedicated followers sacrificing everything to serve our Lord. We provided encouragement and prayer but God provided the fellowship.

What does Egypt look like? It is dry, a mix of fancy architecture and poverty. I find Arabic to be a beautiful language. The Nile is lined with businesses and American hotels, of which we are not staying in. Our guest house is close to the Hilton. Many of the roads are crowded and a constant traffic noise is heard. The roads are elevated, it's almost space like. I cannot think of any place I would rather be than right here with God by my side.

Made it to Newark

Whooooo. What a ride it was. We hedged one way to be told to turn around and go the other. The underlying message is God provides when we are uncertain. We met new friends that I took responsibility for getting to their flight as well.

Magdy and I had a great discussion on following Gods leading in deciding career and life paths. In short, we solved world crisis in an hour and a half with simple solutions. God has the answers if we are willing to listen.

I got to listen to some Desert song as the plane began dissent. It will be a theme for the trip. This stood out. "I will bring praise, no weapon formed against you shall remain...the seeds I've received I must sow."

Much love, it may be a while.

Stuck in Louisville

This blog was scheduled to be from New York but our plane has been delayed. I am learning patience. We are going to be running to catch our connection to Frankfurt Germany. Please pray that the travel is swift and I in particular continue to maintain my newfound patience. Resting in Gods ability to handle situations with His timing.

News just in. We have a plan b. We can catch a flight a couple hours later to make our normal flight to Cairo. God is so good.

Please pray for luggage. It might get interesting sharing clothes.

Pack and Pray

We joined together as a team for the last time prior to our leaving for Egypt.  Most of us didn't know what to expect in the wake of the recent news I spoke about last time.  God provided wisdom and insight, relief of fears and a sense of knowing that He is ultimately in control.

Satan does have the opportunity to use these events against us, but we know that Christ dying was enough to conquer death, and the sting of this world was never more appropriately handled, these sorts of setbacks and discouragement pale in to comparison of how great God is!

Please continue to pray for those on the trip, but also those families who are left behind.  Pray that God strengthens and encourages them in their walk with the Lord.

Prayer Meeting and Headlines

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to meet up with some dedicated followers of Jesus who have been inspired by the Life in Abundance organization, to pray for those ministries that are going on around the world.  It was a great evening of 'African style' prayer that really excited each one of us about the things that God is doing both locally and abroad.

I read an article today, its the headline article in USA Today, that Christians are being actively persecuted in Egypt by some astray government officials, even some Muslims that were witnessing it stood up for them and joined in the protest of the military.  My hope is that would be the Christian response if a Muslim they knew was being persecuted for their faith.  Christ died for all, if they do not see Christ-like actions then how will they know how awesome of a Savior we serve?

Join me in praying through the midst of adversity that the Lord will call His people back to His kingdom.

We have our work laid out ahead of us.

Thank you Jesus.

Welcome

I am so glad you are partnering with me on this missions journey to the ends of the earth.  As we prepare to go, please be praying for those that are preparing the way, the church leaders and members we will be assisting, along with the LIA staff.
